Threatened By Lil Ole Me….
I got an email the other day from somebody asking to see my portfolio so I sent them a couple of links to sites that I have created. I also sent them a link to my free templates for Joomla and WordPress. They proceeded to email me back that they all look like rebadged templates and that I should “Perhaps try to change them up a bit”
Needless to say, I was a bit taken aback by this person. First the person contacted me acting as if they wanted to hire me and then when I gave them samples, they email me back just to criticize. As if I don’t have more important things to do then answer meaningless email that was just meant to criticize. What bothered me the most was that this person insinuated that I don’t have enough business when in reality he doesn’t have a clue how much business I have.
I kept thinking abut it and I finally took to the internet to try and figure out who this person was and where he gets off telling ME how to design websites. The internet is a very cool thing, within seconds I found his facebook page, his website and his other website that advertises his web design business. Once I found out that he also designs websites, I realized that this whole email was not about me. It was about the fact that he felt threatened by me because I offer great value for the price. Not only do I create great websites but I also offer both technical and marketing support throughout the life of the website. Not too many web designers offer that.
While I can probably create a website that is more advanced and flashy, my clients do not need nor can they afford that type of website. They need a website that looks professional, speaks to their potential clients, and makes them money and that’s what my websites do.
In any industry, you will have those who are haters and who will do whatever they can to give you a complex and make you second guess yourself. This is especially true in the web design industry. You have to learn to take it with a grain of salt. As long as your clients are happy with your work and your prices then you have no reason to second guess yourself. Chances are those people who just contact you to criticize are doing it because they feel threatened by you.
Until next time,
Tracy
